NIJ PGD Student Aims to Horn Her Journalism Skills

A student of Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) Aisha Shuaibu Badeggi at the Nigeria Institute of Journalism, (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos has said her academic sojourn in the institution is aimed at improving on her journalism skills.

Shuaibu Badeggi who hailed from Niger, stated this in an interview during one of the lecturer Dr. Qasim Akinreti assignment, relived her experiences on how she cut her teeth in broadcasting, saying she joined the fray during her undergraduate days at Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.

"It has been amazing, my reason for coming to NIJ is to learn, unlearn and relearn basically everything regarding journalsim." She said. 

The PGD student who fondly called 'radio girl' serves  as the general manger at Badeggi radio station, 90.1 FM in Niger state before seeking to pursue her diploma in Mass communication, shared that she is passionate about doing children programme.

She currently anchor the kids zone at the institution's radio Pen Radio.

    Dr. Qasim Akinreti By Dotun Omisakin A lecturer of Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ at Ogba, Lagos Dr. Qasim Akinreti has said that his goal at the peak of his journalism career is to train and produce five thousand journalists. Dr. Akinreti has always made the above statement as his mantra during his classes with the present 2021/2022 students of Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) urging them to maximize their academic voyage to flushed out nonchalant parading themselves as journalist. “My goal is to train 5000 journalists.” He said. Late admitted NIJ PGD Students Express Concerns As First Semester Ends

File photo By Dotun Omisakin, Lagos Students of the postgraduate diploma of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, (NIJ) have expressed concern over the administration of the institution bordering on late admission, length of the number of courses other things they view as improper. A few of the students who were offered admission a month to the commencement of exams believed they were hoodwinked by the institution's online advert announcing the door of admission was still open after two months of lectures. For the sake of protection, the names of these students would not be disclosed. One of them, in her chat with our correspondent, felt disappointed after she was offered admission at the 7th week of the academic calendar. According to her, she was told that lectures began in January, contrary to what she saw when she began lectures. "I was told that lectures started in January." She said.
